Employment Drug Screening

Drug testing can be one of the most effecting risk management strategies appointed during pre-employment screening to avoid trouble in the future.

Drug abuse can make a person confused with continuous mood swings, low job productivity, an increased chance of violence, and can even push the person to steal from the company and their co-workers. Drug abusers need frequent leaves and tend to require more medical help from the company than most employees. Drugs cause a person to be unsteady while on job and might lead to injuries giving them an opportunity to file for worker compensation. They are often tardy and can be defensive and tend to have severe attitude problems. Most alcoholics and drug abusers can cause criminal offenses while on the job and may be more prone to commit sexual related crimes.

The applicant should to be tested for drugs as well as for medical history which shows evidences of rehabilitation sometime in the past. People who were into rehabilitation rarely wish to go back to the drugs but there might be extreme cases where the individual might succumb to drugs due to severe work pressure or other personal problems. It is the duty of the employer to ensure the safety of all the employees and not subject them to the harassment of a drug addict.

Drug testing is a legal process and the employer can conduct the test with the applicants agreement. The employer can mention to the applicant that the drug testing is a prerequisite to applying for the post and is not something personal, in case the candidate feels offended by the request for a drug test. The applicant must also know that there may be frequent drug tests during employment. Employers can get the candidate drug tested at any collection center and the basic results can be obtained within 24 hours. The applicant also needs to be tested for substance use that can prove to be more dangerous than alcohol.

Companies can get in touch with drug testing agencies and send their candidates on a contract basis. The applicant can go to the nearest agency mentioned by the employer and get the drug test done. The company usually takes care of the charges for such tests.
